In partnership with the Bristol Fourth of July Committee, the half marathon will follow the beautiful downtown streets of America’s quintessential community when it is decked out in its finest – during the Oldest 4th of July Celebration in America. The course includes incredible historic homes, a town common and the America’s Cup Museum before heading out along the scenic coastline, through Roger Williams University and finishing along the water at Independence Park. New in 2023 – a Two Person Relay has been added to this event. Register as a team, with the first leg being 7.5 miles, an exchange at Roger Williams University, and a second leg completing the 5.6 mile distance. New Shoreham, Rhode Island (United States of America) - "Run Around the Block 15K Road Race". Saturday Sept 9, 2023 at 1:30pm Block Island Lions Club; Finish Line at Frederick J. Benson Town Beach, 7 Corn Neck Rd, New Shoreham, RI 02807. First organized in 1975, the Run Around the Block 15K Road Race is one of the oldest races in Rhode Island as well as New England. The timed race is a hilly, winding run along mostly paved roads with a stretch of dirt road that appears twice during the route. It begins at Isaac's Corner near Fresh Pond and ends at Fred Benson Town Beach Pavilion where there will be food, drinks and a refreshing dip in the ocean available as well as bathroom and shower facilities. The 15K race is challenging as the mid-day start can be hot and the course is hilly. There are water stops provided along the route and signage to direct you along the country roads. The rural seaside views along the course are beautiful and a great contrast to the bustle of Old and New Harbors. The finish line at Fred Benson Town Beach is within sight of Old Harbor and the ferries to Rhode Island and Connecticut. You will need to take a ferry or plane to reach Block Island. Accommodations should be reserved early if you plan to stay overnight. Proceeds of this race support The Michael and Daniel Batchelder Memorial Scholarship Fund and the Block Island Lions Club. Event details and Schedule The Run Around the Block 15K Road Race has a 1:30pm start time. We suggest that you plan to arrive on island with plenty of time to make your way up to the starting line. The 15K route begins at Isaac's Corner near Fresh Pond. Parking is available at Heinz Field just down the road. Please present your ID to the volunteers at Isaac's Corner check in to receive your number, T-shirt. In person registration and check in will be available on Friday September 8th from 4:00 to 6:30 and also at the starting line from 11am until 1pm. A box truck will be available at the starting line for runners to stow their belongings in. Items should be well marked with your name and cell phone number. There will be limited room for bicycles on a first come basis. Early registrants will enjoy the lower fee of just $30 thru July 15th. Those who then register before August 31th will pay $35. After September 1st the registration fee is $40. Westerly, Rhode Island (United States of America) - "Surftown Half Marathon, Relay and 5K". The Surftown Half Marathon, presented by Westerly Hospital, is a destination race not to miss, with additional distance options available. The 2-person relay gives runners a chance to experience part of the awesome Surftown Half course split with a buddy for 5.1 mile and 8 mile legs. Relay participants exchange within walking distance of the pre/post-race area. The 5K race offers a 3.1 mile beachy run to remember! The flat and fast course travels out-and-back along Winnapaug Pond and the Misquamicut beach community and starts shortly after the 13.1 mile race kicks off. All participants earn a funky beach-themed finisher medal, a high quality short sleeve technical shirt and a post-race party by the beach with a variety of fresh food and an awards ceremony post-race. NEW in 2023 - Take on the Crabby Challenge! Run any distance at the Surftown Half Marathon in addition to any distance at the Mystic Half Marathon and 10K on May 21 and at the L+M Hospital Summer Stride 5K and 10K on July 15 to earn the special Crabby Challenge medal.
