A ROAD RACE SERIES THAT HIGHLIGHTS LOCAL TRIBES - The 2021 Run the Peninsula Road Race Series features 5 races and 5 medals that highlight local tribes. The Run the Peninsula partnered with two of the local tribes in Washington, the Lower Elwha Klallam tribe and the Jamestown Sā Klallam tribe to create the 2021 medals. All of the medals are based on existing tribal artwork and were designed in collaboration with the tribes. On the back of each medal is a description of the origination and meaning of the artwork. All of the medals magnetize to a wooden stand to form a tribal totem. If you do all 5 races you will receive the wooden totem that will showcase the impressive accomplishment. We are hosting an in-person but socially distanced 5k and 10k starting at the Cane Bay Family YMCA and proceeding along the Cane Bay Plantation Trails and ending at the YMCA. This race is being conducted with RaceJoy app using a rolling start and allowing participants to start and complete the event on a set course. This will be a supported course with on course volunteers, aid stations and traffic control from 7am until 11am on Saturday, March 27, 2021. Runners will start when they choose and complete the defined course using GPS timing via a phone app called RaceJoy. In the interest of safety we ask you to follow Covid-19 precautions, including the use of face coverings (provided to all participants), social distancing, hand washing, and staying home if you are ill. An Executive Order 2020-50 Exception Permit is on file with the Governor's office, and we will be enforcing all SC DHEC guidelines to ensure the utmost safety of all participants, volunteers, and staff. Start when you like, but we are asking elite and faster runners to start before 8am. This will allow all who are racing to have a great experience. The course is held on the Cane Bay Plantation multi-use trail system, which crosses several side streets and uses the tunnels to assist in road crossings. There is a 400ft section that is dirt and unpaved, runners must use caution! This area will be marked and supported. The course will be marked, supported, and traffic controlled from 7a-11am. We are utilizing custom digital bibs (see our decorating contest for a chance to win prizes) but give-away, swag, and add-on items will be available for pick up prior to the race at the Cane Bay Family YMCA. Packet pickup will be held Thursday and Friday March 25-26. Virtual packets will be mailed the week of the event. Awards will be given in the 5k Modified in-person, 10k Modified in-person, 5k virtual, and 10k virtual divisions. A special drawing will be for all Cane Bay resident finishers! www.runcanebay.com
