Brookings, South Dakota (United States of America) - "Jack 15 Road Race". The 56th annual Jack 15 Road Race offers the unique opportunity to run with Amby Burfoot, the winner of the 1968 Boston Marathon and the retired editor of Runner's World. He is in Brookings for the South Dakota Festival of Books and also will be speaking three times while here. The Sept. 22 Jack 15 follows county roads from White to the Campanile on the SDSU campus. Prize money is offered for the top three male and female placers - $200 for first, $100 for second and $50 for third. All entries will receive a long-sleeve, moisture-wicking T-shirt and all finishers of the 15.2-mile run will receive a medal. Three Olympians and a Boston runner-up have run the Jack 15, but Burfoot will be the first Boston winner. Don't miss your chance to run with him. Notes: Walkers wanting an early start must contact the race director a week in advance of the race. The Jack 15 offers the following individual and team competitions: Individual competitors may run the entire 15.2 miles; 5-member relay team running 3 miles each; 3-member relay team running 5 miles each; 2-member relay team running 7.5 miles each. Mitchell, South Dakota (United States of America) - "Palace City Kiwanis Half Marathon". This Half marathon starts and finishes in front of the world's only Corn Palace. The route takes you around beautiful Lake Mitchell. Mostly flat with paved road and bike path trails. There will be a post race party at the Corn Palace. www.runpalacecity.com
