The sport association «Courmayeur Trailers» (association without the sake of gain), organizes the Gran Trail Valdigne - Valle del Monte Bianco, with the support of the Communes of Courmayeur, La Salle, La Thuile, Morgex e Pré Saint Didier and Regione Valle d’Aosta.
Event
Two races in the open nature, following the high Valle d'Aosta (Valdigne) tracks, departure and arrival in Courmayeur.
- Gran Trail Valdigne 87 KM: An 87 Km race with elevation gain of 5100 meters. This race cross the biggest five towns of Valdigne's area: Courmayeur, La Salle, Morgex, Pré Saint Didier, Morgex e La Thuile.
- Gran Trail Valdigne 45 KM: An 45 Km race with elevation gain of 2400 meters. This race cross the biggest four towns of Valdigne's area: Courmayeur, Pré Saint Didier, Morgex,e La Thuile.
Participation
This race is open to anyone, man or woman, who is already 18 years old (categories hopefuls to veterans) graduates or not.
Semi self-sufficiency
The individual principle of racing in semi self-sufficiency is the rule. Refreshment posts have been supplied with drinks and food to consume on the spot.
Only plain water (excluding other drinks) is destined for filling-up water bottles or bags (camel Bag). Each runner makes sure to have, at the start of each refreshment posto, the quantity of water and of food necessary for them to reach the next refreshment post.
Personal assistance is authorized uniquely at the official refreshment posts, excluding any personal medical or para-medical care which is strictly forbidden.
In Morgex and in La Thuile, personal assistance can only be given in a zone specifically reserved for this use. The rest of the welcome base is strictly reserved for the runners.
It is forbidden to be accompanied by any one other than a regulary enrolled competitor, along the course.
Enrolment conditions
This race includes many passages at high altitudes, and conditions can be very tough (night, wind, cold, rain or snow). Avery good training and a real capacity for personal sufficiency are indispensable for the success of such an individual adventure.
There are no specific conditions for enrolling for the Gran Trail Valdigne, but is very strongly recommended to have taken part in other long trails (more than 50 km) for this event.
A specific medical certificate is required to validate the enrolment.
Enrolment
The enrolment must be done by compiling the specific form in every part, you can enrol until the 30 June 2008 (not later).
The payment must be done while you are enrolling through an on-line service using the credit card As the service Bank Pass will confirm the enrolment's payment, your enrolment will be recorded as completed in the organisation's Database. Once you are enrolled you will able to consult on-line your own enrolment form in every moment by clicking www.grantrailvaldigne.it choosing "Enrolled List", selecting your name and inserting as password your birth's date (dd/mm/yyyy).

In the case you don't send your medical certificate on time, you will not be taking part to the competition! We don't accept enrolment and/or medical certificate the day of the departure.
Enrolment will be closed when the maximum number of runners will be reached.
The enrolment’s payment includes every service mentioned in this regulation, the pasta party will be organized the evening before the departure, the buffet at the arrival, the assistance, the refreshment stands and eventual transfert to the welcome base of Courmayeur.
Maximum number of runners
The maximum number of runners admitted at the second edition of the Gran Trail Valdigne - Valle del Monte Bianco is 600.
ACCEPTANCE OF THE REGULATIONS OF THE ETHIC OF THE RACE
Taking part in the Gran Trail Valdigne Valle del Monte Bianco, involves accepting without reservation the current regulations and ethic of the race as published by the organisation, witch can be consulted on www.grantrailvaldinge.it
Any runner seen throwing his rubbish on the course will be penalized or disqualified.
It is imperative to follow the pats as signposted, without short-cutting using dustbins that have been placed in large numbers at each refreshment post.
No exchange of race number is possible.
Reimbursement
The reimbursement is admitted only in exceptional cases, 50% of the payment will be given you back.
In case of the race's annulment will be given back 50% of the payment.
Equipment
Obligatory (imperative control before the start and on the course):
Reserve of water (minimum 1 litre)
Two torches in good working order with replacement batteries
Survival blanket
Whistle
Adhesive elastic band enabling one to make a bandage or a strap (minimum 80cm x 3cm)
Alimentary reserve
Rainproof jacket capable of supporting poor mountain weather
Trousers or leggings (minimum a corsair covering above the knees)

Very strongly recommended:
Mobile phone (put in one's repertoire the security numbers of the organisation, do not hide one's number and do not forget to set off with recharged batteries)
Gloves, warm clothes indispensable in the case of cold weather forecasts

Road Book
A runner wishing to use sticks must have them with him throughout the whole of the race.
Race numbers
Each race number is handed out individually to each runner on the presentation of an identity card with photo, having had obligatory material controlled.
The race number must be worn on the chest or the stomach and must be permanently and fully visible throughout the entire race. So it must always be positioned over any clothing and cannot in any case been fixed onto the back or a leg. The name and logo of the sponsors must neither be modified, nor hidden.
The race number is the pass necessary to get to the shuttles, buses, refreshment posts, care rooms, rest, showers.
A present is handed out to each runner at the time they return their race number.
Runners bags
All the racers spare clothes will be left in the bag and deposited at the welcome base at Courmayeur Sports Centre.
Rescue and medical assistance A rescue post is established at each pass or high point and at each refreshment post.
These posts are in radio or telephone liaison with Race Control. A medical control team is present during the entire duration of the event.
The rescue posts are aimed at bringing help to any person in danger with the means particular to the organisation or registered.
The official doctors are authorized to put any competitor out of the race unfit to continue the event (by invalidating the race number). Rescuers are authorized to evacuate the runners whom they judge in danger by any means at their disposal.
In case of necessity, for reasons still going in the interest of the person rescued, it will call on official mountain rescue which will take, at that moment, the direction of operations and will be to work any suitable means, including helicopter air-lift. The resulting cost of the use of these exceptional means will be born by the resceud person who will also have to ensure his return from the point where he/she will have been evacuated.
A runner calling on a doctor or a rescuer submits himself to their authority and undertakes to accept their decisions.
Control post and refreshments posts
A control post is carried out on the arrival of any rescue or refreshment post.
Only the runners carrying a visible and duly controlled race number have access to the refreshment posts.
The road book will identify the precise list of refreshments points stocked with drinks and food to consume on the spot and plain water to fill one's bag or one's flask.
Mobile control posts are set up in places other than the rescue and refreshment posts. their position in not communicated by the organisation.
Maximum authorised time and hour barriers
The maximum time for the 87 Km race is 25 hours.
The maximum time for the 45 Km race is 13 hours.
The hour limits for Starting (hour barrier) of the principle control posts will be defined and communicated in the Road Book.
These hour barriers are calculated to enable participants to reach the Finish in the maximum time imposed, while possible stops (rest, meal...).
To be authorized to continue the event, the competitors must set off again from the control post before the fixed hour limit (whatever their arrival hour at the control post).
In the case of poor meteorological conditions and/or for reasons of safety, the organisation reserves the right to stop the event underway or to modify the hour barriers.
Rest and showers
It is possible to take a hot shower only in Courmayeur.
Withdrawal and repatriation
In case of withdrawal a runnermust warn the person in charge of the post the organisation ensures the repatriation as soon as possible to Courmayeur.
Penalty - Disqualification
Course controllers are authorized to carry out controls on the obligatory material and, more generally the respect for the whole of the regulations (respect for the site and for the ethic, illicit assistance and accompanying, race number not permanently visible on the front...)
Any runners not being in possession during a control along the course, of the totality of his obligatory material will be immediately disqualified, without any possibility of making an appeal against this sanction.
The event jury can decide on the disqualification of a competitor for any serious breach of the regulations, in particular in the case of:
- wearing a race number which does not comply
- not passing through a control post
using a means of transport
- leaving a control post after the hour limit
- taking drugs or refusing to undergo an anti-drugs test
- not helping another competitor in difficulty
- personal assistance outside the official refreshment posts or non-respect for the ruling of not being accompanied along the course
- pollution or despoiling of sites by the competitor or by a member of this entourage
- insults, rudeness or threats made while encountering any member of the organisation or any volunteer
- refusal to be examined by a doctor of the organisation at any moment in the event.
Complaints
These can be received in writing in the 30 minutes after the posing of the provisional results with € 50.00 of caution.
Event jury
This is made up of
- the race director
- the coordinator responsible for safety
- the director of the medical team
- the directors of concerned control posts
as well as any person competed in the consideration of the President of the Organizing Committee.
The jury is authorized to give a ruling in the time compatible with the imperatives of the race on all the litigations or disqualifications occurring during the event. The decision will be without appeal.
Modifications to the course or to the hours barriers - Cancellation of the race
The organisation reserves the right to modify at any moment the route and the positioning of the rescue and refreshment posts, without warning.
In case of too unfavourable weather conditions (strong depression with important amoust of rain and of snow on high round, strong risk of storms) the departure can be delayed for a maximum of two hours, after wich, the race is cancelled.
Insurance
The organisation subscribes to a civil insurance responsibility for the duration of the event.
The participation takes place under the entire responsibility of the competitors, with relinquishment to any appeal against the organizers in the case of damages and later repercussions which could occur from the event.
Road Book
A detailed description of the route will be given to the runners at the race number delivery. It includes practical information such as the hours limits of passages, refreshment places, rescue posts, care post as well as access points for accompanying personal.
Ranking and rewards
Only runners arriving in Courmayeur before 25 (13) hours will be classified.
No monetary prize is handed out.
For the race a general classification man and woman and a classification for each category man and woman are established: the first three for each category will receive a prize.
Picture copyrights
Every competitor gives up expressly their claim on picture copyrights during the event, as he/she gives up any recourse against the organizers and to the official sponsors for the use made of his/her image.
