Laurel, Mississippi (United States of America) - "Mississippi 50 Trail Run". The MS50 is held the first Saturday in March each year on the Longleaf Horse Trail in the DeSoto National Forest just south of Laurel, MS. The race was moved from Leland, MS to its current location in 1996 by Carl Touchstone, a local dentist and accomplished ultra runner. 20K, 50K, 50Mile events start Saturday morning, while the 100Mile event starts Friday at noon. The trail run is on the beautiful Longleaf Horse Trail in the De Soto National Forest just south of Laurel. Easy course, good for first attempt at a new distance. Can change event during the race. Gently rolling pine forest, mostly single track with some double track logging roads. Packet pickup at the trailhead 10am Friday for the 100M, 5 pm for the other distances. Post race meal on-site at the start/finish line. Awards to top 3. T-shirt, finisher mementos. Belt buckle to 100 and 50M finishers. Annually since 1996. www.ms50.com
